About Tutoring

Why should I consider becoming a tutor/leader?

Without tutors there would be no U3A. All of our tutors volunteer their skills and time. If you have a skill or passion that you would like to share please consider offering a class.

Have a look at the range of classes that are currently on offer. Many of our classes have waiting lists. You might like to offer an additional or similar class to one currently on offer, or you might like to offer something altogether different.

Do I need any qualifications to be a tutor/leader?

For the vast majority of classes, there are no qualifications required. Some exercise classes and classes such as Exercise and Yoga require qualifications, but otherwise all you need is a willingness to share your interests and passions with others.

Do I have any administrative responsibilities?

All enrolments are handled by our on-line administration system. You will be given a class list and asked to appoint class monitors to check off the roll and make sure that the room is left in a tidy state at the end of each class.

From time to time you will be asked to pass on information to members of your class.

A tutors’ meeting is usually held twice yearly. This is an opportunity
to discuss issues with other tutors, the Course coordinator and committee.

What should I do if I would like to offer a course?

Think about some of these issues:

  • the class that you would like to offer – the title and content
  • the maximum  and minimum number of students
  • your preferred time/s
  • preferred day/s
  • the length of the course (a short course or full year)
  • do you want to suspend the class at any time/s during the year eg school holidays, your winter break etc
  • any equipment or special facilities that you might need (see here for a list of what is available)

More information available here.

Then contact the Course co-ordinator by email –  or phone the office on 5975 9773. The Course coordinator will be in touch shortly.
